5 Senses Week Activities: Taste Touch Tongues and Texture

Today we talked about our senses of Taste and Touch. We talked about the letter T and how the letter T begins the words Thursday, Taste, Tongue, Texture & Touch. It was a perfect day to taste test and make bears with different textures.

Each student decorated a bear and then they had to use words to describe how the bear looked and felt.

 

Here are some photos from taste testing. We tasted Salty Chips, Sweet Milk Chocolate, Sour Lemons & Bitter Baking Chocolate. You can ask you child to tell you which taste they liked best.

Sept 13- 17 More 5 senses Activities

This week we are continuing to learn about the 5 senses. We are playing games, singing our 5 senses song and reading 5 senses books. Some new items in the centers this week are stacking blocks, purple and yellow paint, scissors and paper for cutting and tearing in the sensory table, waffle blocks and we also have  our family flag and who do you see book in the reading center. Enjoy some Activity pics.

Whats new this week in PreK 3

This week we have begun our 5 senses unit. This unit will last 2 weeks.  We have learned a song about the 5 senses and we are learning that our centers make us aware of the world around us. They are pathways to our brain and help us to learn each day. A great book that we have read is My 5 senses by Aliki.  We have mirrors, magnifying glasses & color paddles in the science center to explore our sense of sight.

We also have beans in the sensory table which are interesteing to feel and touch.

The paint at our art easel is also scented this week so that the children can make paintings that smell like strawberries, mint, or oranges.

The children have also been learning about their 5 senses over the last few weeks in the science lab. Mrs. Smith has planned some great activities to go along with this unit.

Some fine skills that we are practicing this week include using scissors to cut straws and to make beads and then stringing the beads to make necklaces or bracelets.

Lastly, some of you may have noticed the flyer for friends of the animals. We will be collecting coins for the friends of the animals for the rest of the month. This project was started by Laura Kurtz, a third grader, pictured below with a dog and volunteer for friends of the animals. The class that has the most weight in coins will win an ice cream party. You can send coins in a ziplock bag to school with your child if you wish to contribute.

August 30- September 3

Wow I can't believe we are already starting the month of September this week! Today we welcomed two new students to our class, Ananya Kandula and Gabrielle Plain. We are happy that they will be learning and playing with us at school!

We will finish up our all about me unit. We are making special me books and your children are enjoying showing their flags to their friends at school. Thanks for all of your help with our family flag project. We are also continuing to sort in the math center. Some new center items are dress up clothes in the dramatic play center, foam block & an ocean puzzle in the building & puzzle  center,  and finger paint at the art easel. I have found the storychime app on my ipad that the children are enjoying. It is an app that reads a story and uses different voices. There is a 3 little pigs story that they find funny. We will also play with some number and letter apps this week. Enjoy some pics of this weeks new center activities. I hope everyone is having a nice Monday!

All about Me unit and other new things this week

This week and next week our unit is called "All about me!"We are reading books about things that make us special. We are talking about things that we like to do such as riding our bikes or drawing pictures or playing with trians. We are talking about our families and pets and learning that everyone is special and that no two people look exactly the same . We are working on recognizing our names and talking about feelings and being happy sad excited or angry.
